Japanese is Possible!
Mission Statement
This column has several main goals in mind:
1. To introduce the Japanese language, and the
idea that it is possible to learn it, to Anime and Video Game
fans (a.k.a Otaku)
2. To help students of Japanese (by giving grammar lessons,
advice, and links to valuable Japanese resources on the Internet)
3. To provide a forum where students can help
each other, so they will never lose their way as they study
The main focus of Japanese is Possible! is to generate interest in the Japanese language, and demonstrate to people that it can be learned. In short, to convince people that Japanese is possible. With that end in mind, JIP appeals to the average Otaku using a simple language, avoiding complex grammatical terms as much as possible. JIP could have been called "Japanese for Dummies!" but that would be copyright infringement. Besides, JIP doesn't follow the usual "Dummies" book format. What JIP does have in common is the "practical" approach to learning.
That is why JIP uses mostly Anime and Video
Game words in its word lists. Those words will be immediately
useful to students, so they are deemed most important. Likewise,
JIP focuses on the "plain form" commonly heard in
Anime, instead of the "polite form" commonly taught
first in college courses.
Learning a language requires many different kinds of study and
practice. JIP feels that it is best for a student to make use of
several resources at once, to enrich his/her exposure to the
language. Any book or college course has both strong and weak
points. If you have several books, and you practice in several
different ways, you're bound to get a well rounded knowledge of
the Japanese language.
